Maxine Mason Hattaway

January 19, 1927 — October 7, 2013

On Monday, October 7, the Lord called our precious mother to her heavenly home. She died in her home, surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born on January 19, 1927 in Greer, South Carolina to the late Vade Mason and Pearl Stone Mason. Having lost her parents at an early age, she was adopted and loved by the late Asbury Lee Stone and Dora Peace Stone, her aunt and uncle. She grew up in Inman, South Carolina and graduated from Inman High School. She greatly enjoyed her annual high school reunions and attended her sixty-eighth one earlier this year. She also loved to travel and shared many wonderful vacations with her daughter. Maxine always felt closest to God in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Maxine was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins, and was a member of the Fidelity Sunday School Class and Methodist Women's Faith Circle. She met and married the late James E. Hattaway, Sr. in 1945, and moved to Warner Robins at that time. They made their home here and raised five loving children. Together, they owned Houston Bonding Company and operated it for nearly fifty years. Maxine's life was her family and she loved to tell everyone about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many happy days keeping the little ones, taking the older ones to dinner, shopping, to theme parks, the beach, the mountains and anywhere else they wanted to go. They were the light of her life and brought her great joy.

Maxine leaves a wonderful legacy of love and a family that will miss her terribly, but has the peace of knowing she is now with her Lord and Savior. She was a good and faithful servant and she left this world a far better place than she found it.

She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Hattaway, Sr.; parents, aunt and uncle, brother, Duard Mason; and sisters, Edna Mason Gossett and Blanche Mason Hill. Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, James E. Hattaway, Jr. and wife, Judy, Titusville, Florida; Melissa Ann Camp, Warner Robins, Georgia; Karen Callahan and husband, Tim, Chester, Virginia; Steve Hattaway and wife, Joann, Conroe, Texas; and Tim Hattaway and wife Jenny, Warner Robins, Georgia; grandchildren, Jennifer Cook, Jessica Paglialonga, Brian Camp, Daniel Callahan, Dr. Aaron Hattaway, Austin Hattaway, Julie Witten, and Steve Hattaway, Jr.; and sisters, Francis Mason Rhodes, Marietta, South Carolina and Helen Mason McCullough, Newberry, South Carolina. She also had thirteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, October 11, 2013, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins with Rev. Ken Morgan officiating.
