Melba Katrine Kirby Word

December 1, 1934 — January 12, 2016

Mrs. Melba Katrine Kirby Word, 81, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Novant Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas.

Mrs. Word was born on December 1, 1934 in Langdale, Alabama to the late William Causey Kirby and Mittis Lou Arnold Kirby. She was a graduate of Valley High School and Lagrange College and was employed at West Point Pepperell Corporate Office for several years. Mrs. Word was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church while living in Warner Robins.

Mrs. Word is survived by her son, Henry Joseph "Joe" Word of Manassas, Virginia and daughter, Emily Jane Word of Warner Robins, Georgia; grandson, Christopher Sletto of Warner Robins, Georgia; sister, Julia Mehaffey of Lanett, Alabama; brother, Jack Kirby of Charleston, South Carolina; and four nephews and four nieces. Mrs. Word was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Lanier Word; her daughter, Virginia Ruth "Jenny" Word; five sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088. Burial will be private.
