Melvin T. "Mel" Stewart

March 26, 1940 — January 4, 2017

Melvin Stewart, devoted father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal brother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was 76.

Born in Jay, Florida, Melvin grew up in Phenix City, Alabama where he graduated from Central High School. Shortly after graduation, he began working in a cotton mill in Columbus, Georgia and joined the Georgia National Guard serving his country for two years. Melvin later went to manage BF Goodrich Tire Store in Phenix City, Alabama. He then transferred to Warner Robins to oversee Wall Tire Company for several years, and to manage Midas locations in Warner Robins, Panama City, Florida and Albany, Georgia. Melvin's strong work ethic proved to be a coveted trait as his store locations would be top performers.

Melvin was very detail-oriented and would notice the smallest things about people and used this characteristic in poking fun and telling jokes. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and gardening in his free time.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Carol Marquez, April Rodriguez, and Heather Brown; parents, Albert T. Stewart and Virginia Dodgen; and brother, Bobby Stewart.

Melvin's memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Dean Stewart (Cynthia) of Kernersville, North Carolina and Melanie Stewart Black (Mike) of Macon; grandchildren, Rebecca Platt, Amber Eden, Jesse Stewart, Cydney Overton, Joshua Westbrook, Emily Walls, Brandon Black, Saxon Black, Aubrey Marshall, Michaela Black, Abbie Brown and Micah Brown; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Gaylord of Bremen, Georgia; and a number of adoring nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 8th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 9th in Parkway Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Melvin to your favorite charity.
