Michael Bernard ''Big Mike'' Henderson

September 20, 1947 — October 3, 2013

Michael Henderson was born September 20, 1947 to Charles and Ida Henderson in New York, New York (Harlem).

As a young man, Mike was educated in the public schools of New York City, where he attended Boys High School; there he received numerous trophies for his basketball playing skills.

He was raised in the Farragut Houses in the Fort Green area of Brooklyn where he was affectionately known as "Big Mike." His love for basketball and during his travels, he met many great sports legends. He formed a close relationship with New York basketball star, Earl Monroe and Carl Ramsey, the announcer for the New York Knicks.

In his later years, he acquired a passion and talent in framing artwork and pictures. His love of artwork can be seen throughout his home where he was surrounded by an elliptic of unique and beautiful artwork and pictures.

In 2007, Mike moved to Warner Robins, Georgia to be with his mother and sister. Being a New York native, it took him time to realize that Atlanta was not the only city in Georgia, there were many.

While living in Georgia, he formed a very close friendship with Chavis Hurst. The family would like to thank Chavis for the many things he did for Mike.

Big Mike leaves behind to celebrate his life and memories: his mother, Ida Smith; sister, Diane Robinson; brother, Gregory Henderson; brother-in-law, Sterling Robinson; sons, Souvenir Callwood; son, Future Callwood, who preceded him in death; and a daughter, Monique Hicks; cousins, Ronald Davenport of New York, Marvin Scott of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Darryl Scott of Sierra Vista, Arizona; aunt, Wilhelmenia Thompson of New York City; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great-grandchildren.

A visitation and gathering will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
