Michael K. Lewis

February 28, 1942 — July 2, 2003

Michael K. Lewis, Founder and Chair Emeritus of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles passed away in Marina del Rey, CA July 2, 2003. He was born in Los Angeles, CA February 28, 1942 of Milton and Lollie Lewis. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was a businessman with varied interests. Lewis worked for Ralph M. Parsons and Jacobs Engineering Companies both here and abroad in development of major engineering projects. He recently owned a yacht brokerage business in Marina del Rey.

Lewis was a man gifted with vision who leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity. A consummate philanthropist, Lewis not only served on the Board of Make-A-Wish since it’s inception but also served as National Chairman. Additionally he was serving on the Board of Directors of The Viking Charities, The Catholic Big Brothers and ArtsCorpsLA. He touched the lives of many thousands of people.

Lewis is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Caren; his children, Sean Lewis of Tennessee, Shannon Lewis of Puerto Villarta, Mexico, Mohra Johnson and her husband, Scott of Austin, Texas and Michael Kevin Lewis of Culver City, CA; his grandchildren, Abigail and Noa Johnson and Lollie Lewis; his brother, Gerald Lewis of Tenerife, Canary Islands; and stepchildren John and Michael Dempsey.

He was predeceased by his parents Milton and Lollie Lewis and his brother Thomas Lewis.

Services were held Tuesday, July 8, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Loyola Marymount University Campus, Los Angeles, CA. A local graveside service will be held Friday, July 11, 2003, at 12:00 noon in Bonaire City Cemetery in Bonaire, GA.
