Mildred Rogers Wachowiak

October 12, 1924 — November 15, 2015

Mildred Wachowiak, 91, left this world peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2015, after an extended illness.

Mildred was born on October 12, 1924 in Switzer, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Hugh Rogers and Lila Snow Tillinghast, as well as stepdaughter of the late Alex Tillinghast. After graduating from Spartanburg High School, Mildred worked as an operator for the Bell Telephone Company. In 1949, Mildred met and married her husband of fifty-three years, the late CMSgt. Anthony Wachowiak (d. 2003). Through this union, Mildred had five children and, to her delight, the opportunity to travel the world as the wife of an Air Force man. As Tony's last active duty assignment, Mildred and her family moved to Warner Robins, Georgia in 1965, where she lived until her death. She was a member of Our Lady of the Skies Catholic Parish at Robins AFB.

Also preceding Mildred in death were three brothers, Bernard and Charles Rogers, John Tillinghast, and a sister Mary Tillinghast, as well as three great grandchildren, Ethan, Connor and Samantha Christmas.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her five children, Theresa Wachowiak, Augusta, GA; Pat (Allen) Hickman, Warner Robins, GA; Michael (Paula) Wachowiak, Kathleen, GA; Elaine (Tom) McCollum, Tucker, GA; and Eileen (David) Harris, Prattville, AL; one sister, Thelma Horne of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with Mildred's family and friends will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart. After the Mass, Mildred will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the Church Home for the Aged in Fort Valley, as well as Gentiva and Hospice Care Options for the care they provided Mildred in her final months.

The family will gratefully accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Mildred Wachowiak to a charity of the donor's choice.
