Mitchell Warren Taylor

November 2, 1945 — January 18, 2019

Mitchell Warren Taylor passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the age of 73. Mitchell was married to his devoted wife, Carol G. Taylor for 49 years and had two children, Brandi Taylor Morris (Michael) and Mitchell “Matt” Louis Taylor. He is leaving behind three grandchildren who will miss him terribly: Gracie Taylor, Jacob Morris, and Jonah Taylor. He is preceded in death by his father, M.L. Taylor, his mother, Louise Hardy Taylor, and his sisters Anita Snyder and Terry Lewis. He retired in 2002 after working 32 years at Robins AFB as a FMS F-15 Program Manager for the Israeli Air Force, a job he absolutely loved.

He loved cars, God, his family, motorcycles, Gunsmoke, Chicago PD, Star Trek, and his friends, not necessarily in that order. There was no greater entertainment on Earth than a front row seat of people-watching with him from his 63 Volvo in the Walmart parking lot. Carpooling to work with him made caffeine completely unnecessary.

Mitchell was a man of few words, but many vices: He loved smoking, pork skins, well done steaks, and condensed milk over cereal. He was a true Renaissance man, a man who built a cabin in the woods with no prior building experience; a man who once sawed a 1964 Chevy Two in half and cut out 18 inches, only to weld it back together again to see if he could do it (and did); a man who took up dirt track racing and motorcycle racing in his mid-50s and did so competitively. This was a man who built an exact replica of the 1969 “General Lee” Dodge Charger in the 80s so that his kids could be picked up from elementary school in the coolest car on the planet. This was a man who would work 8 hours at his regular job, then come home and work 3-4 more in his shop to put his kids through college.

His children learned more from watching his actions than listening to his words, because he was always polite, always said thank you, and never interrupted someone in midsentence. He never failed to give his wife and kids a hug and kiss and tell them that he loved them each and every time they said goodbye. He knew the Bible backwards and forwards and was ready to meet the good Lord at the end.

A celebration of his life will be held at McCullough Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior.
