Msgt. Luis Antonio Matos, Jr., Usaf (Ret.)

December 16, 1966 — September 18, 2020

Luis Matos, Jr., age 53, returned to his Father in Heaven on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Born in Valhalla, New York, on December 16, 1966, Luis was a proud 20-plus year Veteran of the United States Air Force and a devout Catholic man. He took pride in his service to our country and received a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics from the Community College of the Air Force to further his career. Luis excelled in the Air Force as an Aircraft Electrical and Environmental Systems Specialist having retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.

He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed serving his community by volunteering in several different organizations, such as Warner Robins American Little League, the Georgia National Fair, and the Sacred Heart Christian Service Center. Luis was also an avid supporter of various kidney foundations and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. The New York Giants and New York Mets were his favorite sports teams to follow. There was never a dull moment with Luis; he will be remembered as a friend to everyone.

Those left to cherish Luis’ memory are his loving wife of 16 years, Maria Colanag-Matos; son, Dillan Matos; parents, Luis Matos, Sr. and Carmen Rosado; siblings, Janet, Nelson, Hector, Norman, Elvin, and Lissie, Steve Reeves, and Tim Harrell; extended family members, Kelly, Michelle and Jordan, Tristin and Brycen Harrell, Austin and Colton Reeves; and a host of other friends and family members.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Luis will be inurned in Andersonville National Cemetery in October.

The family asks that all attendees wear a mask, remain six feet apart, and refrain from hand-shaking and touching.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Luis Matos, Jr. to Jordan Harrell’s UNG College Fund, 312 Sleepy Lane, Warner Robins, GA 31088.

For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
