Master Sergeant Michael Allen Ashby, USAF, 34, died Monday, June 28, 2004. A memorial service was held Thursday in the Robins Air Force Base Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 2, at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Born in Pontiac, Michigan, Sergeant Ashby graduated from West Holmes High School in Millersburg, Ohio, in 1987 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. His 17 years of service included C-18 and C-135 Assistant Crew Chief at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, and Aerospace Maintenance Systems Instructor, Inspection Team Captain, Floor Supervisor, Flight Chief, and Dock Controller at Robins AFB, Georgia.

In 1994 Sergeant Ashby was assigned as an Aerospace Maintenance Operational Test Specialist to the 605th Test Squadron in Melbourne, Florida, where his professionalism and dedication were recognized as instrumental to the first operational deployment of the E-8C in support of Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR. He was currently assigned as a Quality Assurance Inspector for the 116th Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base. His grandfather, Willie Adkins, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his mother, Joyce Ashby, Big Prairie, Ohio; sister, Brenda Snyder; three brothers, Ron Ashby; Richard Ashby; and Kevin Pruett; uncle, Cliff Adkins; aunt, June Adkins; grandmother, Verna Adkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
