Muggy (Margaret Louise) Hanson

February 5, 1955 — March 6, 2015

Muggy (Margaret Louise) Hanson went to be with her Savior on Friday, March 6, 2015. Muggy was born February 5, 1955 in Melrose, Minnesota and resided in Warner Robins, Georgia for the previous 13 years with her husband of 40 years, Ken Hanson.

She is survived by her husband Ken Hanson of Warner Robins, Georgia, son Lucas Wayne Hanson and wife Rachael Lee (Howard) Hanson of Brooklyn, New York and son Erik Robert Hanson, Warner Robins, Georgia. Other children are Lisa and Don Johnson of Warner Robins, Georgia and grandsons Alex, Warren and Dylan, and Shannon and Pete Siekas of Baxter, Minnesota and grandchildren, Bryant, Claire and Levi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Adair Meyer and Ardis Winifred Meyer.
She is survived by her siblings: Brother James Robert Meyer and his wife, Patricia Ann Meyer of Bloomington, Minnesota, sister Cathleen and Dale Meyer-Olson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, sister Marcia and Don Jerdee of Mound, Minnesota, brother Dr. Anthony A. Meyer and Marian Meyer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, sister Elizabeth Joy Meyer of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, brother Christopher J. Meyer of Durango, Colorado, sister Mary and Tom Fogarty of Nevis, Minnesota, brother Paul Mathew and Jennifer Meyer of Woodbury, Minnesota and sister Carolyn Meyer of Robbinsdale, Minnesota.

Muggy was a graduate of Washburn High School, Minneapolis, MN in 1973. Her adventuresome spirit took her immediately to Gallatin Gateway, Montana to work with Ken at a dude ranch the summer of 1973, beginning a life-long practice of travel and adventure. At the age of 17, Muggy was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and was given four to five years to live. She proved too determined to let lupus slow her down and she fought it for 43 years, living a life full of vitality, friendships, and a strong devotion to and expression of her deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Muggy and Ken were married in the Bexar County Courthouse in San Antonio, Texas on June 28, 1975 following Ken's graduation from Air Force Basic Training at Lackland AFB. She returned home for three months while Ken went on to find their first home in Monterey, California. The next years saw Air Force assignments to Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX, Ft. Meade, Maryland, a return to Monterey, CA, two years at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan and finally Offutt, AFB, Nebraska.

Muggy and Ken returned to Minnesota in 1984 and entered into apartment and property management. They were resident managers at the Calhoun Beach Club Apartments among others, managed a private resort on Mantrap Lake and were caretakers at Legionville School Patrol Training Center near Brainerd, Minnesota.

In 2001, following the 9/11 tragedy Ken was returned to active duty in Georgia and the family prayerfully made the decision to move to Warner Robins.

In Georgia, Muggy's deep love for God and friendships flourished. She was enthusiastically active in her local churches, Harvest Cathedral in Macon and Christ Chapel in Warner Robins. She was an instrumental contributor to the local chapters of Women's Aglow as well as numerous Bible Studies, retreats and long sessions of coffee and conversation.

People were Muggy's lifelong career. Her immediate family and her extended Meyer family were vitally important to her, but her bottomless love for people in general resulted in hundreds of lives touched for the better. She was a spiritual advisor and life coach for many and she leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and caring.

Muggy battled lupus for 43 years, but she never let it get the better of her enthusiasm for life. In 2011, her lupus flared and she spent three weeks in Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, GA. She seemed to recover from that flare of the disease.

In 2012, Muggy and Ken took the trip of a lifetime in their RV, traveling 10, 000 miles and visiting 26 states over a two month period. In 2013 she was Ken's primary caregiver during his fight with throat cancer.

In mid-2014, her lupus flared again and it became a stream of worsening conditions, emergency room visits and hospital stays. A week in Emory in September, two weeks in Emory in October, a week in North Memorial in December, 2 ½ weeks in Emory in January and finally Houston County Medical Center in Warner Robins in February. She lived a miracle in beating lupus for 43 years, but the disease had taken such a toll on her that she passed quietly at home, in their bed with Ken and two angels by her side.

Muggy always felt that she was going to get well; she showed amazing resilience throughout her battle with the disease. She believed that God was not finished with her yet. As is all too often the case, we humans do not fully comprehend God's ways. God is not finished with her yet, He just decided to bring her to her heavenly reward and let her work on earth go on. Let us continue that work!
