NCCM Joel Raymond McDonald, (U.S. Navy, Ret.)

Naval Counselor Master Chief Petty Officer Joel Raymond McDonald, or “Mac” as he was fondly known, passed away on November 10, 2020, at his Warner Robins residence. He was 73 years old. He was born to the late Georgia Jean Cooke in Salisbury, North Carolina. In addition to his mother, Mac was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Anita Orlet McDonald.

Mac joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old. During his 22 year career, he served in the Vietnam War and he earned the Navy Achievement medal, five Good Conduct Awards, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation four times, three Navy Commendation Medals, and a Vietnam Service Medal. He retired as Command Master Chief and was in charge of all of the Navy Recruiting in the Southeast. The Navy was Mac’s life.
After retiring from his distinguished military career, Mac was a private investigator for insurance companies. In his free time, Mac enjoyed spending time golfing and with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Mac’s memory include his sons, Jay McDonald of Warner Robins and Scott McDonald (Patricia Quintero) of Blue Ridge, Texas; and grandchildren, Aiden Joel McDonald and Delaney Brooke McDonald.

A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
