Nan Baker Mays

December 28, 1939 — September 30, 2021

Nan Baker Mays went to be with the Lord her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 30, 2021. She was 81 years old.
Born in Cedartown, Georgia, on December 28, 1939, Nan was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna Nichols Baker. She grew up in Macon, Georgia, and graduated from Miller High School. After high school, Nan worked for Southern Bell until her husband, Charles went to serve in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. A dedicated wife and mother, Nan supported her husband and stayed home to raise their three beautiful children. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Nan also baked many delicious desserts and treats. A longtime active member of Northside Baptist Church, she served as a Vacation Bible School volunteer and sang in the choir. With the voice of an angel, she also shared her gift of singing at many weddings and other social events. Though she always stayed busy, Nan’s favorite activity was spending time with and taking care of her grandchildren. She loved taking them to school as well as many outings. Later in life, Nan honored her parents by taking phenomenal care of her mother and mother-in-law.

In addition to her parents, Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Mays.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Polly Pike (Jim) of Warner Robins; and Frances Holden (Wally), all of Byron, Georgia; John Mays (Linda) of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; five grandchildren, Shane Hopkins (Kasie), Garrett Childress (Ashley), Anna Murphy (Nick), Becky Mays, and Christina Mays; three great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Baker of Argyle, Texas; and nephews, Barry and Stephen Baker.
