Nancy Mccullough Gentry Whittington

April 9, 1933 — September 15, 2014

Nancy Whittington, 81, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, September 15, 2014 at Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry. Born in Anniston, Alabama, Nancy was a 1950 graduate of Warner Robins High School where she and her first husband, the late Irvin Gentry, were both voted "Most Thoughtful" in their Senior Class. This trait is something that Nancy would be known for throughout the remainder of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and caring for all who knew her. A member of Second Baptist Church since 1947, she was active in the Joy Jubilee Sunday School class. Nancy was retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base where she had been a Materials Specialist.
After her husband Irvin's untimely death in 1970, Nancy became both Mother and Father to their two young boys of 11 and 13. They could not have asked for a better mother to fill this role. In 1978, she wed Clarence "Whit" Whittington and together they enjoyed 37 years of marriage until her death. They loved to travel, seeing much of the United States together, and enjoyed a home on Lake Sinclair, and time with family. She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Additionally, Nancy found great joy in being a homemaker and seamstress, was an excellent cook who enjoyed putting up fresh vegetables every year, and gathering berries to make wonderful homemade pies and jams for which she won many awards. She was also an avid gardener, winning awards for her many beautiful flowers as well. In the 1950's she was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
In addition to her first husband, Irvin Gentry, she was preceded in death by her father, James Miller McCullough; brother, Jimmy McCullough; and two step-sons, W.C. Whittington III, and Lynn Whittington.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband "Whit" Whittington, Bonaire; mother, Mable McCullough, Perry; sons, Wayne Irvin Gentry (Valerie) of Commerce, GA; Gregory Kent Gentry (Laura) of Bonaire; sister, Carol McCullough McNeal; and sister-in-law, Gail McCullough, both of Warner Robins; grandchildren: Greg Gentry, Karie Morgan (Adam), Katie Shell (Jared), Kelly Gentry, Beau Gentry, Dylan Gentry, Clint Gentry, Austin Gentry, Leah Gearing, Wyatt Gearing; Jason Whittington; great-grandchildren: Michael Kent Morgan and Brittain Gregory Shell; along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17, at 2:00pm with visitation beginning at 12:30 prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 2504 Moody Road, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31088.
