Neva Mae Hedlund (91yrs) left this earthly realm on October 8 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.
She was the sixth of nine children born to her late parents, Sfrona and Jewel (Joe) Munkres, on February 8, 1930, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Neva was an USAF wife, a homemaker and she joined her husband, Vernon, at many military bases across the United States and abroad to Japan and Germany. She often followed her husband to her new home (by air and sea) alone with two littles girl in tow.
Neva was an avid golfer, winning several ladies’ tournaments held at Robins AFB in the 1970's.
Later in her life, Neva settled in California, living with her sister Joy, together they served as family matriarchies for 30 yrs.
Neva was passionate about volunteering at her church, serving as a summer camp leader for local children in the area. She often worked the church Rumble Sales, aiding her church in feeding and sheltering homeless women and men.
Neva is survived by her two daughters, Vicky Lynn Sheffield of Bonaire, Georgia, and Susan Carol Hedlund of Tempe, Arizona; and her brother, Doyle Munkres of Elk City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; Walter Scott (Laura) Sheffield, William (Camela) Sheffield of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Carrie Goates of Tempe, Arizona, Jennifer (Wes) Fletcher of Phoenix, Arizona, and David Gardner of Ferrum, Virginia, Tyler Gardner of Flagstaff, Arizona and her nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the McCullough Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Perry Memorial Gardens where Ms. Hedlund will be laid to rest.
