Nora Ritchie Clarke

April 24, 1919 — July 16, 2013

Nora Ritchie Clarke, age 94, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Heart of Georgia Hospice Facility in Perry, Georgia. She was born April 24, 1919 at Hilton, Early County, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 205 North Davis Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia with Reverend Ken Morgan and Reverend Missy Blumenthal officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery, Warner Robins, Georgia.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 at First Methodist Church, 205 N Davis Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia.

Mrs. Clarke was predeceased by her parents, James P. and Blanche Grimsley Ritchie of Columbia, Alabama; her husband of seventy years, Arthur Hubert Clarke, Sr.; her son, Robert Ritchie "Bobby" Clarke; and her brothers, James O. Ritchie and Thomas Rice "T.R." Ritchie. She is survived by her sister, Sara Ritchie Stephens and her husband, James; and brothers, Mack Ritchie and Lonnie C. Ritchie and his wife, Bobbie.

She is also survived by her son, Arthur H. Clarke, Jr. and his wife, Nancy; grandson, Michael Louis Clarke and his wife, Suzanne; granddaughter, Leigh Clarke Woodyard and her husband, Krag; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Rachel, and Trevor Woodyard, and Ashley and Kristen Clarke.

She was a long time employee of the Houston County Board of Education and began her career as a lunchroom worker. Mrs. Clarke later became lunchroom manager at Charles E. Thomas Elementary School and while there, decided to become a teacher. She attended Middle Georgia College and later Georgia Southwestern College where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1968, and her Master's Degree in Education in 1974. Mrs. Clarke taught fifth and sixth grade at Centerville Elementary School from 1968 until she retired in 1981.

After her retirement, she served as a "Pink Lady" volunteer at Houston County Hospital for several years. Mrs. Clarke was an active member of First United Methodist Church since 1951 and a member of Wesley Sunday School Class. Mrs. Clarke was a Life Member of the Martha Berry Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Masonic Children's Home, 811 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201 or The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 340 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.
