Oliver Jackson Mashburn

Oliver Jackson Mashburn of Bonaire, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at age 85.

Jack was born on February 1, 1938, in Unadilla, Georgia to George Lemuel and Florence Cheatwood Mashburn. In addition to his parents and stepmother, Mary Platt Mashburn, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Ira Mashburn, and first-born son, J. Bryan Mashburn.

Jack attended Unadilla High School, Middle Georgia College, and Georgia College. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy as an interior communications electrician for seven years. On the USS Canberra, he traveled the world on President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s good will tour. He also served in the Vietnam War on the USS Midway. After over 30 years of civil service, he retired from his career as an electronic mechanic for Robins Air Force Base in 2002. He spent his days camping, fishing, gardening, and feeding the birds. All who knew him will remember Jack as a hard worker, fast friend, jokester, and storyteller.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Clements Mashburn; their children, Rebecca and Jonathan; grandson Dylan; and beloved dog, Abbie.

Visitation will take place Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Jack will be laid to rest in the Prayer Garden of Magnolia Park Cemetery.
