On the evening of Tuesday, November 20, 2018, Eugene O. Raynor passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was 85.
On September 13, 1933 in Coats, North Carolina, Eugene was the son of the late David Marion Raynor and Rittie Jackson Wood. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division before joining the United States Navy. In 1974, Eugene retired from the Navy Reserves with the rank of Petty Officer First Class and 30 years of dedicated military service to his country. He went on to retire from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, as well. In Eugene’s free time, he loved sitting outside on his swing overlooking his pond and playing the harmonica, but being “Paw Paw” to his grand and great-grandchildren made him the happiest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Eugene’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Madelyn Raynor Bullock of Kathleen, Debra Raynor Selph (Richard) of Byron, and Libby Landeros, Connie D. Raynor, and David Allen Raynor, all of Kathleen; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two little dogs, “1 Black Bart” and “1 Brown Bart.”
Visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Cleghorn officiating. After the service, Eugene will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors.
