Penelope L. "Pennie" Sunderman

September 14, 1945 — July 25, 2017

Pennie Sunderman joined her beloved husband of 53 years, MSgt. Paul Vernon Sunderman, USAF (Ret.) in heaven on the evening of Tuesday, July 25, 2017. She was 71 years old.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 14, 1945, Pennie was the daughter of the late Edward Raymond and Betty Couch Osgood. As a teenager, she moved to Tucson, Arizona where she went to high school and met her soulmate, Paul. They were married on July 19, 1963 when Pennie was only 17. Paul joined the United States Air Force soon after they wed and as a family, they moved to Alaska, then back to Youngstown, then to Warner Robins in 1986.

Pennie was a devoted military wife and mother for most of her life and did secretarial work on the side. She was longtime faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Perry where she was very involved and had many friends. A people person, Pennie never met a stranger and was always helping others. She was also an art fanatic who enjoyed quilting, ceramics, acrylics and oil painting, and loved teaching painting classes. Pennie enjoyed being a part of the Fair Crackers at the Georgia National Fairgrounds where she worked seasonally, as well. In her free time, she loved spending time with family and animals whom she treated like her children.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Paul Sunderman, Jr. (Donna) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Pamela Sunderman of Gahanna, Ohio, and Patrick Sunderman (Lisa) of Byron; grandchildren, Chantelle Coles Neal, Joshua Greene, Jessica Peterson, Katie Sunderman, Paul Edward Sunderman, and Cory Allen Sunderman; great-grandchildren, Greyson Sunderman and Aubrey Sunderman; and brother, Randy Osgood.

A memorial service celebrating Pennie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29th at Christ Lutheran Church. She will be laid to rest at a private graveside service in Andersonville National Cemetery on Monday, July 31st.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Pennie Sunderman to Christ Lutheran Church, 208 Langston Rd., Perry, GA 31069.
