Philip R. Fountain, 88, passed away on September 4, 2008.

Mr. Fountain was born on February 24, 1920, in Richlands, North Carolina. He was an Equipment and Allowance Specialist in the civil service at Robins Air Force Base and a captain in the U.S. Army. After high school, he lived with his Aunt Maxine and Uncle Alvin in Raleigh, North Carolina. His uncle was an English professor at North Carolina State, where Philip received his good culture. In July, 1943, Philip proudly joined and served his country in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he fought in Germany as an infantryman and assisted his battalion in the capture of Leipzig, Eisheid, Rescheid, and Ramscheid, Germany. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge and attained the bronze star. After the war, he met the love of his life at the Atlanta Army Depot, Hazel H. Hardin and married on October 7, 1950. They had three children, Philip II, Michael, and Tonya; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Philip was a member of the Tyrian Lodge, the 32nd degree Scottish Rite and Al Sihah Shrine. His parents, Frederick Artemis and Hattie Naomi Fountain, and brothers, Grayson, Milton and Harry Fountain, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 6, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2008, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home; Reverend Andy Cook officiating. Entombment will follow in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Shirley Hills Baptist Building Fund, 615 Corder Road, Warner Robins GA 31088, or Family Comfort Hospice of Birmingham, Alabama, 1528 Carraway Blvd., Suite 360, Birmingham AL 35234.
