Rev. Douglas Lynn Schriner

October 26, 1947 — July 30, 2015

Rev. Douglas Lynn Schriner, age 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family at the Heart of Georgia Hospice Inpatient Care in Perry on Thursday, July 30, 2015.

Douglas was born in Elyria, Ohio on October 26, 1947. After graduating high school, he attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he graduated with a Theology and Bachelors of Bible degree. While attending Tennessee Temple, Douglas helped start the radio station WDYN-FM in Chattanooga. Later, he was a photo journalist for WDEF-TV in Chattanooga.

Beginning as a Recording Engineer for Guido Evangelistic Association in Metter, Georgia, Douglas was responsible later for printing the literature that was mailed out monthly. While in Metter, he was licensed to preach in 1982 by the Excelsior Baptist Church in Bulloch County, Georgia, and ordained to the ministry by First Baptist Church of Metter in Candler County.

He pastored Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Candler County, Harville Baptist Church in Bulloch County, and Wades Baptist Church in Screven County. Rev. Schriner enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and had an extensive collection. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam Alice and Allen John Schriner.

Surviving Rev. Schriner are his wife of 40 years, Nancy Ryan Schriner of Byron; daughters, Keri Whitehead (Brian) of Lizella and Courtney Schriner of Byron; granddaughters, Madison, Haley and Ryanna Whitehead; brothers, Donald Schriner (Joanne) of Raleigh, North Carolina, David Schriner (Cecelia) of Hampton, Virginia, and Dennis Schriner (Dianne) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Slade and Dr. David Wilson officiating. Following the service, Rev. Schriner will be laid to rest in First Baptist Church Centerville Cemetery.
