James Thomas Purvis, Jr., 86, formerly of Warner Robins, joined his Lord and Savior in heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
Reverend Purvis was born on July 4, 1927 in Vienna, Georgia to the late James Thomas Purvis, Sr. and Gladys Ward Purvis. A faithful servant of the Lord, he was a charter member of Second Baptist Church. Reverend Purvis attended Norman College where he earned an Associate's degree, Mercer University where he earned a Bachelor's degree, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Throughout his ministry he pastored ten churches throughout Georgia, before retiring from Salem Baptist Church in Edison. A man of great faith and strong character, he enjoyed sharing God's word, visiting people in their homes, and was willing to serve in any capacity he was needed. He was also a Mason and member of Woodmen of the World. His parents, and two granddaughters, Stacey Franks and Kelli Franks, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of sixty five years, Doris Hicks Purvis, Macon; son, Don Purvis (Cary), John's Creek, Georgia; daughter, Joyce Franks, Batesburg, South Carolina; brother, Frank Purvis (Frances), Dublin; grandchildren, Austin Franks, Dameon Franks (Jessica), Colin Purvis, and Courtney Purvis; three great grandchildren; and so many other loving extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Friday evening, August 2, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Second Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Slade officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
