Rita 'Reet' Guelich

December 31, 1951 — February 7, 2016

Reet Guelich, 64, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2015.

Reet was born on December 31, 1951 in Apatin, Yugoslavia. When Reet was five years old, she, her mother, father and brother all immigrated to the United States to escape Communism. Her family finally settled in Chicago after a long voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Reet became a U.S. citizen when she turned 22 and lived in the Chicago area until she was 44.

She met her husband of 33 years, Jim Guelich, at Northrop Grumman in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. There, Reet worked for 15 years, and then retired due to Jim's transfer to Warner Robins to run the Northrop Grumman plant on Hwy 247.

Reet was an avid gardener and did quite a bit of carpentry around the house. She enjoyed people which showed in the parties she threw. Reet was the Secretary/Treasurer in the Brantley Subdivision for six years where she and Jim lived for 19 years. When Jim became ill, they decided it was time to down-size and moved into a 55+ community where she and Jim were warmly welcomed.

Reet was not a religious person, but didn't believe you had to believe or belong to a church to be a good person at heart. She would help anyone that needed her and was a caregiver to her parents until their passing. She then became caregiver to her husband, Jim.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; stepson, Jimmy Guelich to whom she was very close to; sister, Mary Acon of Illinois; brother, Frank Mahr of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Reet's request was to have no service or funeral, but to be cremated and have her ashes sprinkled into the ocean which she loved.
