Ruby Amelia Whitfield Sylvester

Ruby Sylvester, 85, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia after a brief illness.

Ruby was born on April 14, 1932 in Bagdad, Florida to the late Mellie Cooley Whitfield and Oscar Fernie Whitfield. She received her registered nursing degree from Carraway Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Birmingham, Alabama in 1953 and retired from nursing after working 24 and a half years at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins. Prior to nursing school, Ruby graduated as the Valedictorian from Milton High School in Milton, Florida in 1950. She became a military spouse in 1955 and traveled overseas as well as in the states moving to the local area in 1963.

Ruby was a member of Bonaire Methodist United Church and the "WilElife Kitchen Band," as well as the Fan Alice Sunday School class. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. For her, every day was Mother's Day and Ruby's love of God and family brought her great joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Michael David Sylvester, Sr. and Charles Dexter Sylvester.

Ruby's memory will forever be treasured by her loving children, Deborah Marney (Mike) of Warner Robins, John Sylvester (Pam) of Silverhill, Alabama, Daniel Sylvester of Milledgeville, and Steven Sylvester (Kristy) of Warner Robins; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, May 12th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Morgan officiating. Following the service, Ruby will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
