Ruth Pauline Sisk

August 3, 1925 — January 5, 2010

Ruth Pauline Sisk, 84, entered into rest on January 5, 2010 at her home after battling Stage IV lung cancer that was finally diagnosed in September of 2009. She was born August 3, 1925 in Hartwell, the younger of the late Paul Timothy and Willie Eunice Collins King two daughters. Her husband, Grady Eugene Sisk, preceded her in death in September of 2000.

Mrs. Sisk formative years were spent in Anderson, South Carolina where she graduated from Girl's High School at the age of sixteen in 1942. In her high school yearbook, her peers described her as "happy go lucky, a quick replier with a mischievous manner". Her childhood desire of being a nurse became a reality when she was accepted into the free nursing program offered at Anderson County Hospital School of Nursing and received her nursing degree in 1946. Though she'd had aspirations of joining the war effort as a U. S. Navy nurse following graduation, the war ended before she received her diploma. Her nursing career began in Toccoa as an operating room nurse. However, she soon returned to Anderson and worked at the Heath Department. When Donaldson Air Force Base closed in 1963, the family moved to Savannah. She relocated to Warner Robins in 1966 and, with her family, immediately joined Green Acres Baptist Church where she remained an active member throughout the years. She enjoyed participating in local women's bowling leagues through the 60's and 70's. In January of 1989, she retired from Obstetrics and Gynecology in Warner Robins, after twenty years of service and, coincidentally, at the same time as her employer, Dr. Manning.

She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister and aunt. She was endowed with many of the qualities inherent to nursing and her compassion made her the consummate caregiver. Her selfless contribution to nursing was recognized in the dedication of room number 286 in her name in the Women's Center of Houston Medical Center. She loved people and animals, enjoyed the beach, reading, gardening, baseball, and football. She and her husband Grady supported the WRHS Demon football team and the WRHS Band Boosters.

She will live in the hearts of her daughters, Paula. J. Burton and husband Jerry, Warner Robins, and Karen L. Sisk, Crawford County; step-son Howard Sisk, Mauldin, South Carolina; sister, Virginia Cordell, and niece, Freda Verner, both of Anderson, South Carolina; grand-niece, Kim Bridges, Warner Robins, and grandnephews, Paul and Timothy Bridges.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 7, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Reverend Johnny Ellison officiating. Entombment will follow in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund, 901 Elberta Road, Warner Robins GA 31093
