Smsgt. Albert “Al” Hemstreet, Usaf (Ret.)

August 3, 1944 — February 9, 2023

Retired USAF Veteran and Corvette enthusiast, Albert “Al” Hemstreet, passed away on the morning of Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the age of 78.

Born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI, Al was a son of the late Albert F. Hemstreet and Clara Jean Sorensen. He graduated from Parchment High School in Parchment, MI where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. In 1963, Al proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force having served in aircraft maintenance, then as a Crew Chief, and finally as a supervisor; he retired in 1984 with 22 and a half years having attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Following his career with the military, Al worked for an assortment of places to include: Charlie Pike Chevrolet, Boeing and Lithonia Lighting, before becoming an independent representative for Superior Auto Lifts. He also had a side business of purchasing cars and flipping them to sell. Al had a love for any kind of car, but the Corvette held a special place in his heart. He served as a member and held various offices of several Corvette Clubs, to include President of Corvettes Limited in Warner Robins since 1983. He was a lifetime member of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, as well. Al had an affection for airplanes, too, and loved building model airplanes and flying RC planes. When he wasn’t working or fueling his passion of Corvettes and planes, Al was happiest while being with his family, wife, children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Kay Hemstreet of Centerville; children, Christina Gibson of Warner Robins, Michael Hemstreet of Macon, and Cynthia Munn (Keith) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Michael Gibson (Candace), Bryan Gibson (Ashley), Allison Cornog (Dustin), Alexis Mauro, and Kaitlyn and Austin Hemstreet; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Frank Hemstreet (Janice) of Portage, MI.
