Smsgt. Tobbie L. Jones, Usaf (Ret.)

A true American Patriot, SMSgt. Tobbie L. Jones USAF (Ret.), entered into the gates of Heaven on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was 90 years old.

Born into a farming community in Emory, Texas, on October 1, 1931, he was the son of the late William C. Jones and Adeline Brown Jones. At the age of 16, Mr. Jones walked 18 miles in order to enlist in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country first as an Aircraft Mechanic, and later as a Flight Engineer. During that time, he was fortunate enough to travel the world. Mr. Jones retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after 24 years of service. Following his military career, Mr. Jones accepted a position at the Warner Robins Post Office; Among several other duties performed, he worked as a Mail Sorter and in fleet maintenance for an additional 24 years before his final retirement.

A servant of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Mr. Jones was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He also enjoyed serving others and volunteered at Houston Healthcare for 25 years. Mr. Jones was passionate about flying. He earned his pilot’s license and bought his own plane. He also enjoyed listening to country music and cheering on the Atlanta Braves, rarely did he miss a game. Above all, he loved his family. Mr. Jones was especially proud of his children and grandchildren.

A man of faith, integrity, and courage, Mr. Jones’ family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him, will miss him tremendously.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alia Jones; and siblings, William C. Jones, Bobby R. Jones, Alvin Jones, and Jessie Kirkpatrick.

His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of 71 years, Virginia Ammons Jones of Warner Robins; children, Debra Meharg (Dale) of Macon; Michael Jones (Cheri) of Townsend; and Thomas Jones (Sherry) of Pike Road, AL; grandchildren, Chad Frazier, Virginia Mince, Corey Meharg, Blake Jones, and Morgan Blake; six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with Mr. Jones’ family will be Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating his life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with D.C.O. Jerry Bisping officiating. Following the service, Mr. Jones will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with Military Honors.
