Smsgt. William Harbert "Pete" Andrews, Usaf (Ret.)

SMSgt. William Harbert “Pete” Andrews, USAF (Ret.) passed away on March 24, 2021. He had celebrated his 89th birthday on December 6.

Pete lived an active life and was an avid runner for many years. One of his many accomplishments was completing the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. Pete spent 23 years in the U.S. Air Force where he reached the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He served during the Vietnam War and was part of the 18th Field Maintenance Squadron stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base. He was awarded the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He was then stationed at Robins Air Force Base as an Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent. After his military career, Pete spent over 20 years in civil service as an instructor at Robins Air Force Base. His service to his country and community didn’t stop there, as he was also a CPR instructor for the Red Cross throughout Georgia.

Pete started life in the Midwest. Born in Marianna, Arkansas, he was the son of the late William H. Andrews, Sr. and Ruby Virginia Barnhart Andrews. He was 89 years old at his passing.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Wanda June Whitaker Andrews; children, Alicia Andrews of Charlotte, North Carolina and Michael Andrews (Deborah) of Clayton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Christopher Kevin Tyler and fiancé Morgan Morrison of Wilmington, North Carolina, Stewart Michelle Tyler Howell (Matthew) of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Justin Ritsema of Houston, Texas, and Kelly Ritsema of Cary, North Carolina; great granddaughter, Evelyn Mae Howell of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; nieces, Donna Mallory of Lake Jackson, Texas and Brenda Traham (Joseph) of Freeport, Texas; and nephew, Steve Mallory (Trisha) of Hallettsville, Texas.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The service will take place immediately following visitation in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with full military honors. Pete will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery. For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
