Ssg Donald "Don" Mcvean, U.S. Army (Ret.)

December 21, 1946 — February 17, 2017

Don McVean went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2017. He was 70 years old.

Don was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia, son of the late Robert and Helena McVean. He was drafted into the United States Army soon after his high school graduation where he specialized in Communications for 21 years. Mr. McVean was stationed all around the world at bases located in Germany, Okinawa, and Italy before retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military career, he worked for 20 years at Advanced Auto Parts as a Commercial Parts Manager. Christ United Methodist was his church home.

Proud of his country, Don was tremendously patriotic and always flew the American flag in his yard. He enjoyed competitive bowling and played in tournaments for the Army and in civilian competitions. Mr. McVean was also a master in woodworking and loved making things for his family and friends. "Poppy," as he was affectionately known by his family, leaves behind countless memories with each family member.

His memory will forever be treasured by loving wife of 37 years, Peggy Jo McVean of Warner Robins; his loving children, Todd Tanguay (Barbara) of Augusta, Curt Tanguay of Warner Robins, and Donald McVean (Jill) of Augusta; grandchildren, Leo Vasser Tanguay, Austin Jay McVean, and Kennedy Ray McVean; sister, Margaret Ann Cleveland of Fenwick Island, Delaware; and brother, Tommy McVean (Jonie) of Naples, Florida.

A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21st in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Matt Stewart will officiate. At the family's request, his burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Don to Christ United Methodist Church, 511 Russell Pkwy, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
