Sgtmaj George Valentine Gerbert, Usmc (Ret.)

George V. Gerbert, 74, entered into rest on Saturday, November 11, 2017.

George was born on December 16, 1942 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Robert Valentine and Mary Frances Israel Gerbert. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps, having fought during the Vietnam War. George retired after more than twenty-six years of dedicated service. Following his military retirement, George joined and retired from the Warner Robins Police Department as an officer. He was dedicated to his community and his faith, serving as a member and deacon of Hebron Baptist Church and the Kairos ministry. George was also a commandant of the Marine Corps League. He met daily with his breakfast gang solving the world’s problems over coffee. George enjoyed researching genealogy, having matched over 11,000 extended family members. He adored his role as Opa to his grandchildren and was actively involved in their lives.

George is preceded in death by his parents and sister.

His memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife, Brenda Joy Davis Gerbert; children, Rhonda Kaye Gerbert Mitchell (Larry) of Virginia Beach, Sheri Lynne Gerbert Shaw (James) of Warner Robins, Michael Brandon Gerbert (Ashley) of Spartanburg and Julie Valentine Gerbert Harrison (Daral) of Jacksonville, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild and brothers, Robert Francis Gerbert, Valentine Adam Gerbert, and Joseph Israel Gerbert.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Hebron Baptist Church in Americus. Afterwards, George will be laid to rest in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will accept flowers, or donations may be given in memory of George Gerbert to Heart of Georgia Hospice at 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088 or Ronald McDonald House at 1160 Forsyth Street, Macon, GA 31201.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with George Gerbert’s arrangements.
