Sheila W. Edwards

August 30, 1944 — January 3, 2021

Sheila W. Edwards, devoted military wife, mother, and grandmother, passed into the hands of her Lord on Sunday, January 3, 2021. She was 76 years old.

Born in Fort Myers, Florida, on August 30, 1944, Sheila was the daughter of the late William P. and Edna Middlebrough Waters. From the time she was a young girl, she was always ambitious and strived to do her best at whatever she did. Sheila graduated from Moore Haven High School in Moore Haven, Florida, and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Not content with a Bachelor’s degree, she went back to school at Florida International University where she earned her Master’s degree. Sheila retired after many years of service as a dietitian at Houston Medical Center.

Sheila met her husband, the late Darwin Gwinnett Edwards, while he was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Their relationship was based around airplanes from the very beginning and held fast throughout their marriage. Sheila loved flying with him and wanted to share the thrill of piloting. She flew with Darwin any chance she had. Sheila relished being a military wife and traveling all over the world with his career. She was an avid scrapbooker (before everything became digital), a wonderful cook, and loved painting, especially seashells and starfish. When Sheila didn’t have her hand in those hobbies, you could find her spending time with her only granddaughter, Jenilyn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darwin; and her brother, Ronnie Waters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving sons, Chris Edwards (Wendy) and Richard Edwards, both of Warner Robins; and granddaughter, Jenilyn Edwards.

Sheila will be laid to rest with a graveside funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in Andersonville National Cemetery with Reverend David Miller officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Sheila to the Museum of Aviation Foundation, P.O. Box 2469, Warner Robins, GA 31088 or to the American Diabetes Association, GA Affiliate, 233 Peachtree Street, Harris Tower - Ste 2225, Atlanta, GA 30303.
