Shirley Bowen Walton

April 9, 1935 — August 14, 2017

Shirley Bowen Walton, age 82, of Alpharetta, Georgia went to be with the Lord while receiving care at a local hospital on Monday, August 14, 2017. She passed away peacefully after a brief illness.

Mrs. Walton was a native of Dooly County and a long-time resident of Warner Robins. She was also a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. Shirley was a graduate of the Vienna High School and was retired from Robins Air Force Base after many years of service. Shirley loved her husband, children, and extended family – whom were all first in her life. She also loved her pets, as well as all animals, and she enjoyed spending time with her friends with pastimes such as playing bingo. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband James Walton, her son Terry Rathel and her siblings Grady Bowen, Alma Langford, Mamie Jacobs, Lila Woodard, Ruth Kohler, Harold Bowen, Ralph Bowen and Nancy Conner.

Survivors include her daughter, Tracy Walton Reidenbach (Michael) of Alpharetta, Georgia, her brother Alton “Buddy” Bowen of Centerville, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted, however donations may also be made in lieu of flowers to The Atlanta Humane Society (atlantahumane.org) or The American Stroke Association (heart.org).

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 at McCullough Funeral Home (417 S. Houston Lake Rd, Warner Robins, GA 31088), with Pastor Steve Wood officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the memorial service, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A Burial service will immediately follow where Shirley will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery (205 S Pleasant Hill Rd, Warner Robins, GA 31088). After the graveside service, at approximately 1:00 p.m. a luncheon reception will be provided at The Farmhouse (adjacent to the McCullough Funeral Home, at 95 Chantilly Dr, Warner Robins, GA 31088).
