Smsgt. Troy Mills, Usaf (Ret.)

Mr. Troy Mills returned to the arms of his Creator on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Troy was born on July 29, 1967, to the parentage of Eva Lou Mills and the late Jimmie Gibson, Sr. At an early age, he joined William Grove Baptist Church in Mitchell, GA, and later Beulahland Bible Church of Warner Robins, GA, where he served in the Armed Forces Ministry. Troy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force under the Delayed Enlistment Program in September of 1984 and entered active duty on July 9, 1985, after graduating from Glascock County Consolidated School. He earned his Associate’s Degree in Education and Training Management from the Community College of the Air Force in 1998, an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Georgia Military College in 2000, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Columbia Southern University in 2016.

Troy faithfully served in the United States Air Force for 29 years and retired at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, where he served as the Superintendent of the Reserve Force Development Office, 413th Force Support Flight, Robins Air Force Base. He loved to travel, and spend time with his family and grandson, Josiah, and his furry companion, Tyson. Troy was also dedicated to helping others achieve their educational and career goals. He will forever be remembered by all who knew him as a gentle giant who was unwavering in the love and support he showed to everyone who knew him.

Troy was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Gibson, Sr.; siblings, Mariah Walden, Charles Mills, Joanne Mills, Linda Carroll, Easter Gibson, Jeanette Gibson, Janice Gibson and Randy Gibson; and brother-in-law, David Swint.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife of 25 years, Mrs. Cathy Swint Mills of Warner Robins, GA; mother, Eva Lou Mills of Mitchell, GA; children, Justin Mills (Jamie) of Patrick Air Force Base, FL and Carlos Williams (LaToya) of Atlanta, GA; his pride and joy grandson, Josiah Mills (Jojo) of Patrick Air Force Base, FL; brothers, Roosevelt Mills (Arleese) of Louisville, GA , and Jerry Mills and Jimmie Gibson, Jr. (Louvenia), both of Mitchell, GA; sisters, Carolyn Wiley of Clarksville, TN, Evelyn Braddy of Warthen, GA, Mildred Lane of Columbus, GA, Dianne Jackson (Melvin) of Tennille, GA, Shirley Flemming (Durane) of Sandersville, GA, Brenda McGhee of Milledgeville, GA, Runette Gibson of Sparta, GA and Lillie Gibson of Warrenton, GA; mother-in-law, Mrs. Clemittee Renfroe of Warner Robins, GA; sisters-in-law, Angela Swint of Miami, FL and Shirley Mills of Waynesboro, GA; brothers-in-law, Wayne Swint of Warner Robins, GA and Calvin Swint of Miami, FL; uncle, Willie Elbert Tucker; aunts, Willie Lou Neal, Willie Mae Lawrence, Jessie Mae Nelson, Derestine Denson and Florine Ross; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Troy’s family will receive friends on Friday, September 3, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A private Homegoing Service for Troy’s family and invited guests will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2020, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
