July 12, 1933 — August 26, 2014

Douglas Berkley "Pepaw" Showker, 81, passed away at Pine Pointe Hospice and Palliative Care, in Macon, Georgia on August 26, 2014. He was born in 1933 in Craigsville, Virginia to the late Raymond Leonard and Margaret (Thompson) Showker. Douglas was of the Methodist faith.
In 1971, TSGT Showker retired from the United States Air Force. He was a decorated veteran and Bronze Star recipient, having served in combat during the Korean Conflict, Japan, Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam Air Offensive Campaign (Phu Cat). He also served in the Strategic Air Command in 390th, 352nd and 781st bomb wing squadrons. He especially loved the B52. He was grounded in 1967 due to health reasons and served as a First Sergeant the remainder of his military career.
After his military retirement he held many positions. Most of his adult life he dabbled in photography; he started taking pictures, developing and printing photo's at home and after his retirement owned a photography business. In 2007 Mr. Showker retired from Reese Products Inc. as an Ambassador. His work took him through all fifty states and Canada, representing the company on the road, at Rallies and RV shows, by presenting safety seminars, selling hitches and associated products. Mr. Showker was well known for his outgoing personality and never met a stranger attitude and willingness to help fellow Airstreamers and travel trailer enthusiasts. Many times while he was stopped at rest areas total strangers would seek his advice; he always helped and took pride in his work.
Mr. Showker was a Life Member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (Airstream Trailer #13969) and for over 35 years enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He served as Vice President for Region 3 and was also active in the Amateur Radio Club.
His first wife of 50 years, Hazel Lois "Memaw" (Benjamin) Showker; brother, Ralph Leonard Showker of Staunton, Virginia; and half-brother, Paul Lee Cole of Arizona, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Melissa Gail Post of Lizella; daughter, Jency L. Showker of Lizella; granddaughter, Emily Rose Showker Cochran of Athens; and sister, Margaret Maheeba Rostosky of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
