Tsgt. John Clayton "Clay" Macomber, Usaf (Ret.)

John Macomber, 50, entered into rest on Monday, March 2, 2015.

Clay was born on October 9, 1964 in Largo, Florida. He was a graduate of the South Sumter High School Class of 1982 in Bushnell, Florida. Clay proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during Operation Desert Shield. In the course of his military career, he earned many awards including, the Air Force Achievement Medal with 3 devices, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 devices, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with 2 devices, National Defense Service Medal with 1 device, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Armed Forces Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 devices, NATO Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor with 6 devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 6 devices. Clay retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant.

Upon retirement he went to work at Lowes in Warner Robins for 12 years. In his spare time Clay loved to travel and above all else he enjoyed spending time with his family.

His memory will forever be treasured by his parents, Ted and Mary Macomber of Webster, Florida; Fiancé, Valerie Breneman of Warner Robins; step-daughters, Apryl Skiles of Warner Robins, Amber Skiles of Maine; siblings, Mike Macomber (Michelle) of Tallahassee, Wendi Dilimone (Jim) of Fruitland Park, Florida; niece, Eryn Macomber; and nephews, Justin, Shawn, U.S. Navy, and Jimmy Dilimone.

A small service will be held at Peachtree Baptist Church for close family and friends. The service will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th. Clay will finally be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given In Memory of Clay Macomber to the Wounded Warrior Project 4899 Belfort Rd. Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL. or the American Cancer Society 804 Cherry St. Suite A. Macon, GA. 31201.
