Tsgt. John Sental Ross, Jr., Usaf (Ret.)

John Ross, Jr. held hands again with his beloved wife, Peggy Ann Ross in heaven on the afternoon of Friday, December 15, 2017. He was 91 years old.

John was born in Lowell, North Carolina on December 11, 1926, the son of the late Eliza Jane and John Sental Ross, Sr. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina and proudly joined the United States Air Force. John bravely served his country during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars and received several medals including the: Asiatic Pacific Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Medal, World War II Victory Medal with four Bronze Loops, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He retired with 20 years in the military and went on retire with 22 years in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. In John’s free time, he enjoyed dancing, woodworking, building wooden ships, watching sports, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his sons, Dennis and James Ellis; and his sisters, Geneva Straussner, Helen Crutchfield, and Meta Orpin.

John leaves his memory behind with his loving daughter, Jaymee “Jay-Dee” Ross of Hartford, Tennessee; grandchildren, Alycia Morrow (Michael) of Byron and Jesse Ellis of Warner Robins; great-grandchildren, Anniston, Aubreigh, Alivia, and James Morrow, Sarah and Nathan Ellis, and Michael Sharbutt; siblings, Selma Cobb and Dot Waldrep; and a number of adoring nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 23, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
