Tsgt. Walter H. Jones, Usaf (Ret.)

On the evening of Thursday, February 23, 2017, Walter Jones, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior.

Walter was born on June 16, 1941 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Joseph and Annie Jones. With great pride and honor, he served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, including 18 months during the Vietnam War and a remote tour in King Salmon, Alaska. Following his active duty career, Walter continued to serve in civil service for 20 years at Robins Air Force Base. Walter had a passion for helping others and volunteered his time to several charities. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus and worked with the Boy Scouts. Walter was a "jack of all trades"; he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting as well as playing golf, baseball and hockey. However, his greatest joy came from time spent with his beloved family.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 54 years, Carmen Jones of Centerville; son, Joseph Jones (Joan) of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Celeste Hartman (Mark) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Jeanette Liebsack (Steve); Adam Hartman (Samantha); Melissa Cooley (Matt); Ashley Jones; Brittany Jones; Rachel Jones; great-grandchildren, Natalie Hartman; Eli Liebsack; and siblings, JoAnn Bakelaar; Robert Newton Jones; and Linda Hill.

A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Following the service, Walter will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery with full military honors.
