Walter D. Whiting

Walter D. Whiting, 86, entered into rest on Friday, February 12, 2010.

Mr. Whiting was born on May 11, 1923 in Buford, Georgia. He served in the military and World War II prior to moving to Warner Robins, Georgia in 1947. He held a long time position with Warner Robins Supply Company for over twenty years. Walter was committed to serving his family and community and did so by participating on several boards or organizations during his lifetime.

He served on the Flint EMC board as the second director from Warner Robins from October 1957 until March 1998; during that time he also held positions of Vice Chairman (October 1986 – October 1990) and Chairman (October 1990 – November 1996). Additionally, he served on the Chamber of Commerce as a Director and two years as President, was Founder of the Warner Robins Rotary Club, Director of First Federal Savings Bank, and active with the Museum of Aviation and WRING. His commitment and service were recognized in the numerous awards he received from various civic organizations. A few of the awards that stand out during the time he lived in Warner Robins include the Chamber of Commerce Charlie Jones Award, Volunteer of the Year from the Georgia Economic Development Office of Georgia and the First Civilian Award from the Museum of Aviation. Walter enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, supporting the military community and spending time with his family and pets. He was preceded in death by his wife Oreta Glover Whiting and parents Alfred and Myrtice Whiting.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Robert "Bob" Davidson, Greensboro; granddaughters, Heather D. Flach, Decatur, and Amy D. Clerke, Lawrenceville; three great –grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Inman H. Glover and Betty Glover, Warner Robins; nephews, John Whiting, Mike Peavy, and Keith Glover; and niece Michelle Nowling.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m.on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with entombment following in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
