Walter Ranew

August 31, 1927 — April 23, 2022

Walter “Walt” Ranew, 94, entered the gates of heaven on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Walt was born on August 31, 1927, in Quitman, Georgia to the late Joseph and Ida Ranew. He grew up in Greenville, Florida prior to serving his country in the United Sates Navy during World War II. Walt was devoted to his church home, First United Methodist Church, and attended the Wayne Lowe Sunday school class. He was actively involved with the food pantry, snack pack and as an usher. Walt lived his life with a servant’s heart and was a comfort to others. He could often be found walking the halls of Houston Medical Center eager to pray for all that would accept. Walt was an amazing neighbor and loved college football. He graduated from Florida State but loved his Florida Gators. Walt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah, who he loved unconditionally as well as his siblings.

His memory will forever be treasured by his nieces, Gail French (Bob) and Bonnie Franklin (Michael) and nephews, Arthur “Buddy” Hendry (Karen), Robert Lee (Edna), Scott Lee (Nancy) and Michael Kelly (Bonnie); and host of extended family and friends.

The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Josh Bizzell officiating. Following the service, Walt will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Walt will lie in state at the funeral home from Thursday until the day of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in memory of Walt to First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 205 N. Davis Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31093.
