Walter Roland Barrett

July 18, 1927 — October 8, 2017

Walter Barrett, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 8, 2017. He was 90 years old.

Walter was born on July 18, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Walter and Florence Bay Barrett. As a young man, he moved to Hershey, Pennsylvania and attended the Milton Hershey School. In 1947, Walter proudly served one year in the United States Navy. Walter moved his family from Hershey to Warner Robins, Georgia in 1966 when the Middletown Air Materiel Area closed. At the time of his retirement in July 1982, he was serving as Chief of the Aircraft and Missile Function of the Item Management Division, Directorate of Materiel Management, Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.

During Walt’s earlier years, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. For the past 16 years, he faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Centerville, and until his declining health, was an active member of Roy DiSpirito’s Sunday School class. Walt was an avid antique dealer, as well.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Betty I. Rossi; and their youngest son, Todd.

Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Shirley Stricklen Barrett of Warner Robins; daughter, Sharon Seabolt (David) of Bonaire; sons, Danny of Grantville, Pennsylvania, and Steve (Kim) and Jeff (Bonnie), both of Warner Robins; daughter-in-law, Pam Barrett of Macon; stepdaughter, Sherri Kitchens (Randy) of Barksdale AFB, Louisiana; and stepson, Jimmy Stricklen (Shannon) of Warner Robins. Walter is also survived by grandchildren, Michelle Berrier Bliss of Warner Robins, Chris Berrier (Ilean) of Fort Valley, Ruby and Grant Barrett of Macon, Shelby Jones of Grantville, Pennsylvania, Travis, Jensen, and Kiley Barrett of Warner Robins, and Jansen Barrett (Myrissa) of Byron; great-grandchildren, Gracie Bliss, Maylin Berrier, and Chloe and Gabe Barrett; and step-grandchildren, Jamie Stricklen, Ryan and Kara Kitchens, Andy, Adam, and Josh Stricklen, and Christina and Christian Streater.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 11th from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Dr. David Grantham officiating. Following the service, Walter will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Walter Barrett to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Dr., Warner Robins, GA 31088 or to First Baptist Church of Centerville, 108 Church St., Centerville, GA 31028.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Barrett’s arrangements.
