Walter Steve Sheffield

May 21, 1948 — February 19, 2018

The “Greatest Generation” has produced many friends to which we, the citizens of this country, owe our gratitude. One of these recently passed away. Walter Steve Sheffield, 69, of 396 Mt. Zion Rd., Bonaire, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Regency Hospital in Macon.

Mr. Sheffield, a patriot to his country, family, friends, and to all with the good fortune to know him, began this life’s journey in Donalsonville, Georgia on May 21, 1948 as the son of Pauline and the late Edward Sheffield. Mr. Sheffield started his career at Robins Air Force Base in 1966 and retired with 38 years on October 2, 2003 as a Deputy Section Chief. He also during this time served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 33 years. Mr. Sheffield performed his duties selflessly and in a superior manner as he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Although he had a long career with the government, he was best known for his barbecue business, Chief’s Bar-B-Que. He was also known for his Sheffield’s Bar-B-Que Sauce.

Mr. Sheffield departed this life after living an enjoyable and loving life. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years and mother of his two sons, Vicky Lynn Sheffield of Bonaire; sons, Walter Scott Sheffield (Laura) and William Steve Sheffield (Camela), both of Haynesville, Georgia; mother, Pauline Sheffield of Fayetteville, Georgia; sister, Linda Cargale of Fayetteville, Georgia; and granddaughter, Sydney Sheffield.
