Wilbur Gildersleeve, Jr.

June 16, 1952 — November 16, 2015

Wilbur Gildersleeve, 63, left to join his LORD and SAVIOR on Monday, November 16, 2015 following a brave battle with prostate cancer.

Wilbur was born in Southampton, New York and was of the Baptist faith. At the age of 17, he moved to the Middle Georgia Area and shortly thereafter joined the National Guard. Following his military service to our country, Mr. Gildersleeve became a truck driver from which he retired in recent years.

Since he was a young boy, Wilbur had a love for racecars, and in 1973, he began dirt track racing. He had a passion for slot car tracks, iRacing, and NASCAR, as well. A charter member and past director of Macon Harley Owners Group (HOG), Mr. Gildersleeve enjoyed motorcycles also, riding his bike from coast to coast. Wilbur enjoyed life, his family, and many dear friends.

His parents, Wilbur Gildersleeve, Sr. and Marie Bernada Cruz-Gildersleeve, preceded him in death.

Wilbur's memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife of 45 years, Luwanda Gildersleeve of Warner Robins; children, Wilbur Gildersleeve III of Macon and Tiffany Marie Lopez of Byron; grandchildren, Corey, Luis, Kaylen, Zachery, Gabryella, and Connor; sisters, Elizabeth Gildersleeve (Phillip) Alfaro, Susan Marie G. Parsons, and Michele G. Bodiford (Charlie Thorne); brother, Raymond Ignacio Gildersleeve (Susan); half-sister, Linda Hay; and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterwards, Mr. Gildersleeve will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Wilbur to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517.
