Wiley E. Knott

Wiley Eugene Knott, 82, passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, September 28, 2020.

Mr. Knott was born on March 18, 1938, in Muncie, Indiana to the late Lt. Col. Joseph and Mildred Haxton Knott. After graduating from Heidelberg High School in Germany, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tri-State University (now known as Trine University) in Angola, Indiana. Additionally, he completed graduate coursework at Union College and Georgia College. He relocated to Georgia where he spent most of his life. He first came into prominence in his field as an associate aircraft engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation from 1963 to 1965. Mr. Knott then worked for General Electric as a technical publications engineer, group leader, and senior publications engineer. Later, he joined Boeing’s Military Division in Wichita, Kansas, and held positions as a senior specialist engineer, customer support manager, and logistics manager. He served Boeing for more than fifteen years before retiring as the principal engineer at Boeing’s Everett, Washington location in 1995.

In his spare time, Mr. Knott could be found enjoying a round of golf or collecting model train sets. He also had extensive stamp and coin collections. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.

His memory will forever be treasured by his niece, Vicki McAndrews (Patrick) of Geneva, Illinois; his nephew, Philip Stivers (Michele) of Kempner, Texas; and his great-nieces and nephews, Holly, Sarah, Zack, Grace, Katie, and Orion.

A graveside memorial service will be held for Mr. Knott at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Magnolia Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with military honors following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Suite A, Macon, Georgia 31201.
