William “Bill” S. Bird, Jr.

April 25, 1943 — July 13, 2021

William “Bill” S. Bird, Jr., 78, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 25, 1943, Bill was the son of the late William Stanley Bird, Sr. and Lois Jaunita Courson Bird. He attended Andrew Jackson High School before becoming a master electrician. Enlisted in the United States Air Force, Bill served as a tunnel rat during the Vietnam War. Before his time overseas, he was stationed at Homestead Air Force Base, where he met his soon to be wife, Barbara Shaffer. They were married on July 25, 1965.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Gail Shaffer Bird; brothers, Fredrick, Eugene, and Joe; and sister, June.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Dan); and his son, Mike (Ember); his grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Matthew, and Aniston; as well as his sister, Marie Mappin.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Magnolia Park Cemetery, 205 S. Pleasant Hill Rd., Warner Robins, GA 31088.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given to a fund benefiting William “Bill” S. Bird, Jr. These gifts can be made payable directly to McCullough Funeral Home with “William “Bill” S. Bird, Jr. Memorial Fund” written in the memo line on a check or by calling McCullough Funeral Home at (478) 953-1478 to make a donation by card.
