William "Bill" Woodson Douglas, Jr.

April 16, 1933 — May 6, 2023

William W. Douglas Jr, 90, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, just three months after losing his wife.

Bill was born on April 16, 1933, to William Woodson Douglas Sr. and Ruby Nibblett Douglas (deceased), in Clinchfield Cement Plant Housing in Houston County, GA. He grew up in Perry, Georgia and moved to Warner Robins as a teenager, where he graduated from WRHS in 1945. Bill had two brothers: Ronnie Douglas (deceased) and Wayne Douglas.

Bill was an important thread in the fabric of Warner Robins’ early years. As a teenager, he worked in the movie theater on Front Street. After four years in the Air Force (one serving in Vietnam), he settled back down in Warner Robins to stay. He worked on Robins Air Force Base for 40 years, and was a member of numerous community groups including the Jaycees, Exchange Club, and NARFE. He served on city council for 20 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 60 years.

In later years, Bill’s civic work branched out to the state level, helping with the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia and serving as NARFE state president.

Bill suffered from mild/moderate vascular dementia for the last 10 years and was cared for by his loving wife, Marie, whom he had been married to for 64 years. Her passing literally broke his heart.

Bill was preceded in death by wife, Marie; his parents, Woodson and Ruby; and his brother, Ronnie. He is survived by his son, Bill Douglas (Lisa) of Bishop, GA; his daughter, Dena Hobbs (Jason) of Bonaire, GA; his grandchildren, Will Douglas (Lauren) of Athens, GA, Ella Douglas Brigagliano (John) of Atlanta, GA, Libby Hobbs of Bonaire, GA, and Eli Hobbs of Bonaire, GA; and his three great-grandchildren, Woodson Douglas, Wallace Douglas, and Callie Brigagliano.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Following the service, William will be entombed in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.
