William Clarence "Whit" Whittington

December 10, 1929 — May 12, 2015

Clarence "Whit" Whittington, 85, passed away Tuesday evening, May 12, 2015 while in the excellent care of Heart of Georgia Hospice. Born in Fort Valley, Whit was the son of the late William Clarence Sr. and Clara Luvenia Arrowsmith Whittington. He was a wounded combat veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during the Korean Conflict. In 1978, Whit was wed to Nancy McCullough Gentry Whittington with whom he enjoyed 37 years of marriage until her recent death in September of 2014. Together they loved to travel across the United States and enjoy the home they shared on Lake Sinclair. Family time, however, was most precious to both of them. He was retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. Whit enjoyed playing golf and watching Atlanta Braves baseball and until health concerns slowed him down, he was also active as a member of Second Baptist Church and the Joy Jubilee Sunday School class.
In addition to his wife Nancy and his parents, Whit was preceded in death by two sons, William Clarence "W.C." Whittington III and Lynn Whittington, and a brother, Tom Whittington.
Left to treasure Whit's memory are his step-children, Wayne Irvin Gentry (Valerie), Commerce, GA; Gregory Kent Gentry (Laura), Bonaire; and siblings, Onita Page, Walter Whittington (Roslyn), Lavar Whittington (Judy), Lavoye Morgan (Ken), Clarette Denney (Harold); sisters-in-law, Gail McCullough and Carol McCullough McNeal; and grandchildren, Jason Whittington, Greg Gentry, Karie Morgan (Adam), Katie Shell (Jared), Kelly Gentry, Beau Gentry, Dylan Gentry, Clint Gentry, Austin Gentry, Leah Gearing, Wyatt Gearing (Katie); great-grandchildren, Michael Kent Morgan, Brittain Gregory Shell and McKenzie Gearing; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home on Friday, May 15, at 2:00pm with visitation beginning at 1:00pm prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Reverend Mike Slade will officiate. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 2504 Moody Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
