William Emmette Vinson Iii

March 22, 1935 — April 10, 2018

William Emmette Vinson III was called home to be with Jesus on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 10, 2018. He was 83 years old.

A lifelong resident of the middle Georgia area, Emmette was born in Byron, Georgia on March 22, 1935 to the late Lula Calhoun Vinson and William Emmette Vinson, Jr. He marched with the marching band at Lanier High School and graduated in 1953. Emmette then attended the University of Georgia where he was on the swim team and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture in 1957. He later served in the United States Army Reserves. He married Diana Reeves on July 1, 1961.

Emmette was a hard-working cattle and pecan farmer who loved God and his family. He was a very patient man of high integrity and was very selfless, as well. Emmette loved tending to his farm, singing with the Barber Shop Chorus, and playing tennis and water sports. He also enjoyed attending The Assembly at Warner Robins and called it his home. Dedicated to church, Emmette participated in church activities, and was involved with the prayer ministry. He also committed to volunteering in the Kairos Prison Ministry where he brought Christ’s love and forgiveness to prisoners and their families.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diana Vinson of Warner Robins; children, Fran Williams (Lamar) of Byron and Will Vinson (Blossom) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, David Luther, Grady Williams, and Liam, Eva, Anaiah and Rielle Vinson; sister, Kitty Pullen of Byron; and niece and nephews, Eric Pullen, Kay Kelley, and Vic Pullen (Bobbie).

The Vinson family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends at The Assembly at Warner Robins from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018. A funeral service will begin at the church at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Azbell officiating. Following the service, Mr. Vinson will be laid to rest in Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Emmette to the Mission Fund at The Assembly at Warner Robins, 6040 Watson Blvd, Byron, GA 31008 or to the Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
