William Taft Sutton, Jr.

April 22, 1938 — March 2, 2018

William Taft Sutton, Jr.,79, “Bill”, of Perry, Georgia, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at his home.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church 129 South Houston Road Warner Robins, GA 31088. A memorial service will follow immediately after the visitation.
Bill was born April 22, 1938 to William Taft, Sr. (“Doc”) and Hilda Sutton in Atlanta, GA. He graduated from Grady High School in 1956. He earned an undergraduate degree at Auburn University in Chemistry and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri (Education) and Georgia State University (Masters of Business Administration) and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. After school, Bill took a job teaching chemistry and coaching the wrestling team at Dykes High School in Atlanta. He moved to O’Keefe High School where he met his future wife Pat Shehan. They were married on August 14, 1965 in Spindale, North Carolina. After 8 years of teaching, Bill made a career shift and began working as a chemist in the industrial products industry in Atlanta, Baltimore, Calhoun, GA and Perry. Parents of Richard Taft Sutton and Scott Edmond Sutton, Bill and Pat stayed busy in their younger years encouraging the boys in school and soccer. Bill was an avid reader and a student of history. He loved to watch college football and take long walks through his subdivision. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting lots of friendly eateries in Perry where he was known by so many and treated very kindly. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist church where he enjoyed the friends he made in the Asbury Sunday School class and also his time serving in their Food Pantry Ministry. He was known affectionately by his grandchildren as “Pop Pop”.
Bill is survived by his wife Pat and two sons, Richard Taft Sutton (Kelli) and Scott Edmond Sutton (Susan); five grandchildren Jay, Meghan, Becca, Will and Sam; and his sisters Becky Henderson (Joe) and Anna Parker (Grover). He was preceded in death by his parents.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Sutton’s arrangements.
