Willis A. Honeycutt

Willis Aaron Honeycutt, 78, Chief Master Sergeant, retired, died peacefully on October 8, 2005 in Perry, Georgia after a short illness. He was born on April 28, 1927 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Titus Williamston Honeycutt and Lois Henderson Honeycutt.

Willis proudly served with the Navy during World War II aboard the USS San Carlos. He later joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. For his military service, he received numerous campaign medals, commendations, and the Bronze Star Medal. In addition, he served in Asia, Europe, and Africa. While he was stationed at Nouasseur Air Force Base in Casablanca, Morocco he met and married his beautiful French bride Yvonne.

Willis will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and patriot. He was very proud of his children, and in his eyes his grandchildren were perfect. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and sharing the bounty of his wonderful garden. Willis was known for growing exotic fruits and vegetables, and we will all miss eating the “best tomatoes in Georgia.” He will be deeply missed by his family and those who could appreciate his sense of humor.

Willis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Yvonne Sentob Honeycutt of Kathleen, Georgia. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Patricia Honeycutt, Atlanta, Georgia and Susan (Dauphin) Honeycutt Childs, Gray, Georgia; his sons, Alan (Lisa) Honeycutt, San Marcos, California; Rodney Honeycutt, Long Beach, California; and David Honeycutt, Los Angeles, California. He is survived by four grandchildren; Camille (Jason) Nobles Stearns, Dauphin Vesro Childs, IV, Brent Ryan Honeycutt, Danielle Nicole Honeycutt; and one great grandchild Ethan Jay Stearns. He is also survived by his sister Wirthie H. Johnson, and brother Ralph Honeycutt, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Myrtle H. Cloninger and Evah H. Canipe; and one niece.

Graveside services will be held at the Georgia War Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 12, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, Warner Robins, Georgia.
