Worthy Edward Strickland, Md

Dr. Ed Strickland, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

Ed was born on July 16, 1938 in Albany, Georgia to the late William Troy Strickland, Sr. and Edwina Brown Strickland. He was a 1956 graduate of Albany High School, attended Georgia Tech, and graduated from Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. He joined the United States Army where he was stationed at Fort Gordon and attained the rank of Major. Ed moved to Perry in 1975 and began practicing at the Perry Hospital as Perry's first OB/GYN. Dr. Strickland opened his own practice in 1976 in a medical office close to the Perry Hospital. Ed enjoyed a long and dedicated practice as a doctor delivering over 10, 000 babies at the Perry Hospital. He was truly gifted at his trade. One of his proudest moments was delivering his youngest son, Edward.

Ed was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Houston Lake Country Club. He looked forward each and every year in attending The Master's Golf Tournament at Augusta National. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Worthy "Wes" Strickland, Jr. (Lisa), Charlotte, North Carolina; Shannon Strickland Musial (Todd), Cleveland, Ohio; Cole Strickland, Charlotte, North Carolina; Amy Strickland Kinnas (Scott), Perry, Georgia; and Edward Strickland, Warner Robins, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and brother, William Troy Strickland (Susan), Meadows of Dan, Virginia.

A memorial gathering will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions be given to The Perry Hospital, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry, GA 31069.
