Zebbie Lomus Chancellor, Jr.

Zebbie Lomus Chancellor, Jr., 86, returned Home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 17, 2019.

Lomus was born in Yatesville, Upson County, Georgia on April 5, 1933 to the late Mary Ella and Zebedee Chancellor, Sr. At seven years old, he moved to Juliette, Georgia and later graduated from Mary Persons High School in Forsyth. After graduating, Lomus proudly joined the United States Navy so that he could see the world; he ironically ended up seeing only San Diego, California for basic training and was stationed in Hawaii for three years where he worked at Sub Base, Pearl Harbor. Subsequent to his time in the Navy, he began a career in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base in June of 1954. He met his wife, Connie, in the summer of 1957 as she worked on the base at that time, as well. They were married in December of that year. Following his retirement from Robins Air Force Base, Lomus worked for Madison Research as a provisioner for aircraft parts.

In his free time, he loved planting vegetables and always had a garden. Lomus also enjoyed serving as a Boy Scout Leader and was a Treasurer on the council for Troop 58. He had innate skills for being a handyman and enjoyed woodworking. He also possessed a talent for photography. Lomus collected coins and developed a deep adoration for trains when his father worked as a telegrapher on the railroad; he even traveled out West by train. He enjoyed traveling any chance he had, especially with his wife and their family. They once rented a car and drove all over the British Isles! Lomus also loved going back to Juliette to get back to his hometown and to visit with family and old friends.

A faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Warner Robins since 1978, Lomus served as a much-loved usher for many years. Quiet and reserved, he was always kind, completely selfless, and was a true role model to the men who were around. Lomus was the perfect dad, grandpa, and true patriot who loved his country while still respecting all political views. His legacy of grace, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to bless generations to come.

Lomus was preceded in death by his siblings, James Rogers Chancellor (Lorine), Reavis Floyd Chancellor (Leila), Ella Cornelia Chancellor, and Margaret Ryder Chancellor Bowdoin (Bill).

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Connie Chancellor; children, Michael Lomus Chancellor (Sharon), Douglas Neil Chancellor, and Elizabeth Ann Chancellor; granddaughter, Ashley Tomlin (Evan); sisters, Lula Chancellor Holley (Clint) and Amma Chancellor Crum; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, October 21, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. After the service, Lomus will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Mausoleum with military honors.
